About Fred's NoUpdate Wake Demo Server

In fall of 2002, I heard about a new game being released called Battlefield 1942. I downloaded both the single player and multiplayer demo for the game and i've been addicted ever since.

The server itself came about in the summer of 2004. I downloaded the Wake Island demo for some unknown reason and tried playing it online. I was surprised at the number of people still playing the BF Wake Island demo but it seemed every server was an undedicated, slow, and laggy. So I decided to make my dedicated server a Wake Island Demo server. The server has become one of the most popular in the BF community.

The server itself is a Dell PowerEdge 1750 2.4 Ghz with 1GB of RAM. It sits on a fully dedicated 100MB Fiber Backbone connected directly to the net. The server is currently housed in a secured server allocation center in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA.

I recently updated the server to version 1.1 of the Battlefield 1942 Wake Island Demo after running no update for a while. I did this to address the crashing that occurs almost nightly due to bugs in the non-updated Wake Demo server and to provide player stats to his web page.
